“Simple Joy at Home”: Keeping Home Decor simple and fun!
With summer coming to a closure, and cooler weather knocking on the door, I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce you to my favorite Interior Design blogger, Sheila Trapp from Simple Joy at Home. More to follow in the interview down below.
I have been following Sheila’s home decor journey for almost a year now, having stumbled upon her beautiful styling tips through Pinterest. Sheila describes her decor to be very simple farmhouse style with touches of cottage charm. And this style is what speaks to me the most. She carries out the simplicity in her decor in a very clean and organized manner, which is what drew me to her style. She shares inspiration on how to find beauty in your home in the most affordable and approachable way possible.
Few days back, I had the honor of creating a custom original painting of “Neutral Hydrangeas in a vase” (which was a rendition of the Purple Hydrangeas from my past works) for Sheila’s beautiful home. And the way she displayed it in her gallery wall, with her complimentary decor around the painting, was like adding the perfect little bow to the package.
It was a pleasure getting to know Sheila more closely through this fun Q&A. So, without any further ado, let’s check out the interview and her gorgeous decor style below. I am sure you will fall in love with her style as much as I have over the year.
Q&A with Sheila Trapp
Q – How would you describe your signature design style?
My signature design style is a mix of favorites! I love combining traditional looks with cottage charm and Farmhouse style! I have a few traditional pieces of furniture that I have hung onto and love, some of which I've painted to change the look!
I enjoy the cottage charm with my lighter colors, fabrics and table vignettes! Farmhouse is simple enough to incorporate and brings a casual touch to my decor.
Q – What inspires your design style? Where do you tend to draw inspirations from?
My design style is inspired by colors, textures, and seasonal change. I love to create with different florals and greenery too! My favorite spaces to work with have a neutral base/background, so I can add color, or change the look when I want!
Q – Are there any interior design styles you tend to stay away from or dislike?
I love many different design styles, but gravitate towards comfy, casual, warm woods, light woven fabrics and welcoming style. Cottage Farmhouse Style is probably my favorite to style! Modern looks I have less experience with.
Q – What kind of artwork do you choose for your home? Do you have a favorite artwork in your home right now?
As far as artwork goes, I love simple florals, outdoor scenery, and fairly neutral colors, so I can enjoy my artwork year round.
Q – What advice do you give someone who is buying an artwork for the first time for their home?
Advice for someone buying artwork - if you love it, it will be be loved in your home! Sometimes we buy artwork to complete an existing look in a space. Other times we take a piece of artwork and draw inspiration for the room from the art. It works both ways!
Q – Last but not the least, what’s your favorite season to style your home?
My favorite season to style my home is definitely Fall! I love the colors of fall and use the colors I see outdoors for my inspiration! I also enjoy creating fall vignettes with all the beautiful faux leaf and foliage stems that are available!
I am truly grateful to Sheila for bringing her creativity, to the world and for sharing her styling tips and advices with us. Don’t forget to follow Simple Joy at Home on Instagram here.
