Blue & White Lovers: Chinoiserie Chic style

This spring marked a special moment in my career as an artist. I had the honor of collaborating with a very talented blogger / designer, Chapple Chandler who has the most elegant yet most relatable taste in curating lifestyle items such as clothes, deals and decors for grandmillenials. She is currently in the process of renovating her 1994 Southern Living Home, and I had the opportunity to offer her a commissioned painting for her beautiful home matching the chinoiserie chic style.

The Commission Process

For her newly renovated living room space, Chapple wanted an image of her favorite chinoiserie temple jar painted with pink and white flowers as shown above. It was quite a memorable piece for her, and she had the plans of matching her decors and accessories with the painting.

Next, we talked about the placement of the painting itself. Since the temple jar was tall and had most of the dimension lengthwise up rather than flat widthwise, we decided a rectangular piece would be feasible. Chapple knew exactly which wall in that room would be fitting for this piece and she sent me a picture for reference. After having her carefully measure out the wall between the windows, I finalized a 24x30” canvas with a deep 1.5” profile for her piece.

During the painting process, I kept in mind to compliment the palettes and aesthetics of the rest of her decor in that room. So, I chose the background of the painting carefully so it didn’t take away from the beautiful creations in that space.

The Final Reveal

After a month of hard work, planning, and painting, I absolutely love how this painting turned out! I was even more thrilled to see how beautifully Chapple styled this painting in her beautiful space. The piece perfectly tied in all her decor elements and felt like just the right piece for that room. I couldn’t have been more satisfied and happy to have been part of this such fun collaboration. Working with clients that have a clear vision of how they want their space to look and feel like makes the commission process much more approachable. The planning, consultation, sharing design renditions, and then finally delivering the final piece all together becomes a project to go on the books, as also the painting itself is to be cherished in it’s forever home for years to come.
